Serena Willaims– Champion Again, No. 1 Again

Serena celebrated winning her ninth Grand Slam crown at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. This is her third US Open WIN. when  It was tennis of the highest standard as she won 6-4, 7-5 and in doing so the world number one ranking also returned to her arms.

“I’m so excited.  I can’t even describe it,” said Serena. “Usually after a Grand Slam I feel like I still have another match to play, but I don’t really feel that way today.  I feel like it’s done and it’s all over, and I’m so excited.  I just    I think it showed on the court.

“I mean, everyone is so excited, believe me.  I mean, this is cool, because I’m at No. 9; I’m pushing the doors closer to double digits, which obviously I want to get to.

“This is cool, because I feel like my game has gotten a lot better and I’ve improved, and, you know    I don’t know.  It was just    each one is really special.  Each one is so special.

“I don’t know.  The Olympic gold medal, though, still, I love.  I can’t tell you how excited I was to win the gold medal.”

No. 1 is an added bonus,” she said. “Like I said, I wasn’t even trying to be No. 1.  I always said if I win tournaments    and then, Ah, I can’t believe I’m No. 1.  It’s been so long.  It’s kind of weird.”

HAIR CUTZ FOR A CAUSE

Terrell Owens of Dallas Cowboys Hosts Hair Cutz-A-Thon in Miami

Grand Opening of T.O. CUTZ Barbershop Aids Children on Saturday, June 21

Fundraiser guests include former Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek

Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboy wide receiver, kicks off the grand opening of T.O. CUTZ Barbershop, Miami’s newest elegant hair salon for men and women, with a Hair Cutz-A-Thon fundraiser for local and global children’s organizations. The Hair Cutz-A-Thon will take place Saturday, June 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. followed by a VIP Reception and Press Party from 6:30 to 8:30pm in T.O. CUTZ Barbershop, located at 8850 Miramar Parkway, Unit 6 (Miramar Parkway & 37 Avenue/Douglas Road).

Men, women and children are invited to get stylish “Cutz” for a cause. The Hair Cutz-a-thon will open with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. involving T.O. Cutz Barbershop co-owners Owens and acclaimed hair stylist Peter Bethel as well as Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, State Representative Oscar Brayon II, and other elected officials and celebrities.  Hair Cutz-A-Thon is a family event that will benefit youths from South West Broward Junior Athletic Association Optimist Club of Miramar, FL and Sanctuary of Moses, a Miami-based organization that aids children in Benin, West Africa.

T.O. Cutz Barbershop is an upscale barbershop that provides a full range of grooming services for its clients. The opening of the Miramar location will be Owens and Bethel’s official launch of a national franchise of Cutz Barbershops.

The Hair Cutz-A-Thon is part of Owens and Bethel’s belief in “paying it forward” to the community.  Owens, the author of the children’s book Little T Learns To Share, heads the Terrell Owens Catch A Dream Foundation, a non-profit organization created to erase hunger and the lack of basic daily needs facing some households in the nation.  The foundation, based in Dallas, provides the necessary resources that children and youth require for realizing and acting on their dreams. One of the popular programs is the Terrell Owens Youth Football Camp.

“I am excited about partnering with Peter and looking forward to providing a service for the children of the community,” explained Owens.  “I am a product of the community. The community has supported me throughout my career, so it is only right that I give back.”

Bethel, who was born in the Bahamas, is considered one of Miami’s most popular barbers to the stars.  His career spans over 20 years in South Florida.  Celebrities, professional athletes and political figures, including Shaquille O’Neal, Dwayne Wade, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs have been Bethel’s clients. Previously, he had a successful salon business partnership with NBA Miami Heat player Alonzo Mourning.

“Being able to have the opportunity to give back is incredible for me, especially when I’m able to support the youth in the local community that I have lived in for so long,” said Bethel.

South West Broward Junior Athletic Association (SWBJAA) Optimist Club of Miramar and Sanctuary of Moses (SOM) are beneficiary organizations.  SWBJAA Optimist Club serves 700 to 800 children in the community.  Funds from the Hair Cutz-A-Thon will be used to establish a tutoring program for children at risk in Miramar, FL.  Sanctuary of Moses focuses on combating child trafficking in Benin, West Africa through education.  SOM will use the funds to provide education programs to more than 500 children who have no access to schools in Benin, West Africa.

ICE-T PRODUCING DOCUMENTARY ON HIS NAMESAKE “ICEBERG SLIM”

ICE-T PRODUCING DOCUMENTARY ON HIS NAMESAKE “ICEBERG SLIM”
PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY BEGINS

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 7th, 2008)
– Principal photography has begun on the documentary about the legendary pimp and writer, Iceberg Slim. The documentary, which is being produced by Ice T, Jorge Hinojosa, and David Naylor, will explore the fascinating and turbulent life of Iceberg Slim.

“Iceberg Slim has been one of the most influential people in Black culture. Few people know the story behind the man and it’s time that story is told. That’s why I am making this documentary.” – Ice-T

Iceberg Slim (1918-1992) was the first black author to write about the dynamics of inner-city street life. Drawing on his 35+ year involvement in pimping and crime, Iceberg Slim fascinated his audiences with gritty tales of pimps, hookers, johns and drug dealers.

Born in Chicago near the end of World War I, Iceberg started pimping at the early age of 18 and was extremely successful but not immune to the perils of street life. Drug addiction, multiple run-in’s with the law, and 7 years of incarceration for various offenses were par for the course.

At the age of 55, Iceberg gave up his illicit lifestyle and moved to California to reconcile with his ailing mother. It was then that he began documenting his first-hand knowledge of living as a pimp and hustler through a series of groundbreaking books.

DHL All-Star FanFest -Jacob K. Javits Center -July 11-15

Posted by TSUE on April 17, 2008

When the all-star players of Major League Baseball descend on New York City in mid-July to celebrate the New York Yankees and say good-bye to the current Yankee Stadium, the world’s largest interactive baseball attraction will be coming with them. From July 11-15, the DHL All-Star FanFest will mark its first visit to New York City in its 18-year history when it takes over the Jacob K. Javits Center for a five-day unrivaled experience for families and fans of all ages. This interactive baseball theme park will launch the 2008 Major League Baseball All-Star Week.

A once-in-a-lifetime experience capturing the thrills and excitement of baseball, DHL All-Star FanFest includes more than 40 interactive activities and historical exhibits such as life-size video batting cages and pitching cages, free autographs from Hall of Fame players and Major League Baseball legends, youth skills clinics taught by current and former MLB players and a historical look at the Negro League. More specifically, some of the exciting attractions at DHL All-Star FanFest include:

The Diamond – Located at the center of DHL All-Star FanFest, this attraction features daily clinics and appearances by MLB players, managers and other experts sharing their insider tips in baseball seminars and hands-on clinics.

Cyber Ballpark – Interactive attraction where you can test your gaming skills featuring the latest Major League Baseball video and computer games.

Steal Home Challenge – Fans test their speed and compete against other fans in this 90-foot race from third base to home plate.

FanFest Bullpen – Fans step up and test their pitching skills against life-sized video images of their favorite MLB sluggers in state-of-the-art video pitching cages.

Video Batting Cages – Fans can slug away at baseballs pitched by life-size images of Major League hurlers.

You Call the Play – Fans get a chance to sit at the microphone and record their own play-by-play of a famous baseball moment – and take home a recording of it as a souvenir.

Major League Baseball Legends – Fans can speak with past, present and future Major League legends. More than 40 players and coaches are expected to drop in throughout the event to sign free autographs.

Collector’s Showcase – Fans will be able to buy, sell and trade their own baseball cards and memorabilia.

FanFest Baseball Cards – Fans can get the ultimate portrait taken on one of the “Fan Fest Baseball Cards.” This classic card even comes with personalized stats on the back.

World’s Largest Baseball – See the Guinness Book of World Records holder signature ball that measures 12’ in diameter and features the signatures of baseballs greats like Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan and others up close.

Hometown Heroes – Stories and images of Yankees’ baseball history and legends will be on display.

National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum – Largest exhibit on loan from Cooperstown, NY, featuring historic baseball memorabilia.

The Negro Leagues – A compelling visual journey back in time as “The Negro Leagues” brings to life the heroic history of some of the game’s proudest and most talented players.
