HAIR CUTZ FOR A CAUSE

Terrell Owens of Dallas Cowboys Hosts Hair Cutz-A-Thon in Miami

Grand Opening of T.O. CUTZ Barbershop Aids Children on Saturday, June 21

Fundraiser guests include former Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek

Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboy wide receiver, kicks off the grand opening of T.O. CUTZ Barbershop, Miami’s newest elegant hair salon for men and women, with a Hair Cutz-A-Thon fundraiser for local and global children’s organizations. The Hair Cutz-A-Thon will take place Saturday, June 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. followed by a VIP Reception and Press Party from 6:30 to 8:30pm in T.O. CUTZ Barbershop, located at 8850 Miramar Parkway, Unit 6 (Miramar Parkway & 37 Avenue/Douglas Road).

Men, women and children are invited to get stylish “Cutz” for a cause. The Hair Cutz-a-thon will open with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. involving T.O. Cutz Barbershop co-owners Owens and acclaimed hair stylist Peter Bethel as well as Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, State Representative Oscar Brayon II, and other elected officials and celebrities.  Hair Cutz-A-Thon is a family event that will benefit youths from South West Broward Junior Athletic Association Optimist Club of Miramar, FL and Sanctuary of Moses, a Miami-based organization that aids children in Benin, West Africa.

T.O. Cutz Barbershop is an upscale barbershop that provides a full range of grooming services for its clients. The opening of the Miramar location will be Owens and Bethel’s official launch of a national franchise of Cutz Barbershops.

The Hair Cutz-A-Thon is part of Owens and Bethel’s belief in “paying it forward” to the community.  Owens, the author of the children’s book Little T Learns To Share, heads the Terrell Owens Catch A Dream Foundation, a non-profit organization created to erase hunger and the lack of basic daily needs facing some households in the nation.  The foundation, based in Dallas, provides the necessary resources that children and youth require for realizing and acting on their dreams. One of the popular programs is the Terrell Owens Youth Football Camp.

“I am excited about partnering with Peter and looking forward to providing a service for the children of the community,” explained Owens.  “I am a product of the community. The community has supported me throughout my career, so it is only right that I give back.”

Bethel, who was born in the Bahamas, is considered one of Miami’s most popular barbers to the stars.  His career spans over 20 years in South Florida.  Celebrities, professional athletes and political figures, including Shaquille O’Neal, Dwayne Wade, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs have been Bethel’s clients. Previously, he had a successful salon business partnership with NBA Miami Heat player Alonzo Mourning.

“Being able to have the opportunity to give back is incredible for me, especially when I’m able to support the youth in the local community that I have lived in for so long,” said Bethel.

South West Broward Junior Athletic Association (SWBJAA) Optimist Club of Miramar and Sanctuary of Moses (SOM) are beneficiary organizations.  SWBJAA Optimist Club serves 700 to 800 children in the community.  Funds from the Hair Cutz-A-Thon will be used to establish a tutoring program for children at risk in Miramar, FL.  Sanctuary of Moses focuses on combating child trafficking in Benin, West Africa through education.  SOM will use the funds to provide education programs to more than 500 children who have no access to schools in Benin, West Africa.

Dan Wilcox Blatimore Raven Gives Back to the community

Posted by TSUE on June 17, 2008

Dan Wilcox

Baltimore Ravens tight end, Daniel Wilcox, has been noticed for his good blocking ability, smooth running style and soft hands, making him a reliable offensive target for his team. As such, he has re-signed with the ravens twice since his original contract in June 2004. Prior to joining the Ravens’ roster, he signed with Tampa Bay in December 2002 after two short stints with the NY Jets.

While Wilcox has gained notoriety for his contributions to his team on the field, he is perhaps best known for his work in the community. During the season, he was a frequent visitor to schools throughout the area, speaking to students at Living Classrooms, Sharp Leadenhall Elementary, Carter G. Woodson and Youth in Transitions. He was also a presenter in three Ravens R.I.S.E. Assemblies in 2004. Further, he participated in several Gatorade Junior Training Camps, including the NFL FLAG Regional Tournament hosted by the Ravens. In July 2005, Daniel took over the reigns of former teammate, Darnell Dinkins’ Football Camp, a free one-day football clinic and educational workshop for high school student-athletes. That year, he was also a consistent speaker for the Ravens R.I.S.E. Assembly Series, appearing at all seven assemblies and inviting teammates to join him in teaching middle and high school students how to Realize, Improve, Share and Expand (R.I.S.E.) their talents.

In January 2006, Wilcox established his charitable foundation, Empowerment M.I.N.D.S (Motivating and Inspiring Neighborhoods Determined to Succeed) with the mission of empowering youth to hold leadership positions in the community. Through his foundation, Wilcox has hosted a celebrity paintball tournament and a celebrity mini golf tournament in 2006 to raise funds that would extend educational opportunities for underprivileged youth. Because they were such a success, he hosted another mini golf tournament in mid-May 2007 and will have another paintball tournament at the end of May.

An Atlanta, GA native, Wilcox attended Georgia Military Academy and Appalachian State University, where he majored in communications and advertising with a minor in psychology. He is also planning a “Cinderella Fairy Tale” wedding on June 28, to be held at M&T Bank Stadium.

The carriage will place Shauna at the end of the aisle in a stunning Pnina Tornai original couture gown.

Daniel will stand at the alter in a hand-stitched tailored one-of-a-kind tuxedo created by New York designer Devon Scott. The couple will be serenaded with a live duet by Jonathan Nelson & Juanita Contee from the gospel group Purpose.

Baltimore Ravens Daniel Wilcox to Participate in NFL Broadcast Boot Camp

Posted by TSUE on June 17, 2008

“NFL BROADCAST BOOT CAMP” JUNE 16-19

Top NFL Producers & Directors to Instruct Players

CBS’ James Brown to Serve as Host Joined ByRon Jaworski, Dick Vermeil, Marshall Faulk, Brian Baldinger & Solomon Wilcots

Twenty current and former NFL players including NNAMDI ASOMUGHA, CHESTER PITTS and DARREN SHARPER, will take part in the annual NFL Broadcast Boot Camp at NFL Films in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, it was announced today.

The program, which runs from June 16-19, is directed by the NFL Broadcasting Department and covers a wide range of topics with instructors from each of the NFL’s broadcasting partners – CBS, ESPN, FOX, NBC, NFL Network, Sirius Satellite Radio, Westwood One Radio, plus local radio and TV. It will include hands-on work in areas such as tape study, editing, show preparation, radio production, control room operation, studio preparation, production meetings, field reporting and game preparation. Each player will tape segments as a studio and game analyst and take part in a networking session with television executives. Each player also will serve as a live radio host on Sirius NFL Radio, a new feature added this year.

From last year’s group of 20 players at the inaugural Broadcast Boot Camp, 12 attendees have already earned broadcasting jobs as a result of their participation in the program.

“We continue to look for ways to help players develop their skills for post-NFL careers. Many of last year’s participants used this program as a career springboard and three have returned (IKE REESE, ROSS TUCKER and ROLAND WILLIAMS) to help this year’s class,” said NFL Vice President of Player and Employee Development MICHAEL HAYNES. “The support of the NFL’s broadcast partners will provide our players with a foundation for understanding the sports broadcasting business.”

“We are pleased that many of our players continually strive to achieve excellence off the field. It is imperative that we continue to create these type of quality programs that will allow players to experience second careers that they are proud of and passionate about,” said STACY ROBINSON, director of player development for the NFL Players Association.

The NFL Broadcast Boot Camp is part of an ongoing NFL-NFLPA initiative to assist players in preparing for their post-playing careers. Over the past four years, more than 360 players have participated in the NFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program. In addition, each offseason more than 100 NFL players enroll in college courses as they work towards Master’s or Bachelor’s degrees while more than 130 others pursue career development opportunities.

Enrollment criteria for the Broadcast Bootcamp include previous participation in NFL Player Development programs, prior media experience, essays, and NFL playing experience.

Ovie Mughelli and Atlanta Athletes walk on the wild side at Zoolebrity Day

Posted by TSUE on June 17, 2008

Ovie Mughelli and Atlanta Athletes walk on the wild side at Zoolebrity Day

Atlanta Falcons fullback Ovie Mughelli went to the zoo Saturday – and found it a much tamer place than his team’s tumultuous 2007 season.

“Last year was like a circus and a zoo for us,” Mughelli said with a laugh. “It was crazy – wild animals running around everywhere, no one keeping us in check, no one keeping us in our cages. You could make a lot of zoo analogies.”

Mughelli, along with Falcons offensive tackle Todd Weiner, Atlanta Dream WNBA players, Georgia Tech athletes and others, were on hand for Zoo Atlanta’s Sports Zoolebrity Day on Saturday. For several hours, they greeted fans, posed for photos and signed autographs.

Among the celebrities, Mughelli and Weiner drew the most interest, although certainly they were no competition for the elephants or the zoo’s new warthog piglet.

Appearing relaxed and rejuvenated in their Falcons jerseys, Mughelli and Weiner heard only well wishes for 2008.

The fans, at least the ones at the zoo, seemed to have moved on from the most chaotic year any Atlanta team has ever had – a 2007 Falcons season that included the imprisonment of quarterback Michael Vick, the dark-of-night departure of coach Bobby Petrino and a 4-12 record.

“No one is talking about the on-field and off-field situations of last year,” Mughelli said appreciatively. “I think Falcons fans see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

He said he sees the same. “Now we have order, structure and purpose,” he said, crediting new head coach Mike Smith and staff.

After being scarcely used by Petrino last year, Mughelli said he is certain he’ll be “an integral cog” this year, his second season with the Falcons.

But his mind was more on animals than football Saturday. “I love animals,” the 245-pound fullback said. “I want a pet monkey – little and cute.”

Avalon Communications’ Smooch A Pooch Celebrity Doggie Bags Handed Out to Hollywood’s Who’s Who

Celebrity dogs are extra fond of the delivery man these days. Over the last week or two, Mr. Postman has made a special visit to the who’s who of Hollywood A-list dog owners. Filled to the brim with fun and unique products for stars’ canine friends, the Smooch A Pooch Celebrity Doggie Bags he delivered are sure to have famous humans and canines alike drooling over their contents.

Last year, “Business Week” reported, “Americans now spend $41 billion a year on their pets—with annual spending expected to hit $52 billion in the next two years.” Those figures came courtesy of Packaged Facts, a consumer research company based in Rockville, Md. And no one is contributing to that spending frenzy quite like the rich and famous, whose seven-figure incomes allow them to splurge to the hilt on their canine companions.

And according to “Forbes” magazine, celebrities aren’t seeking just your run-of-the-mill pet services either. They’re in search of “premium services for Fido and Felix who are now regarded as bona fide family members that deserve the same over-the-top pampering as their masters and mistresses.” It’s precisely such premium products Hollywood A-listers will find in their Smooch A Pooch Celebrity Doggie Bags.

The Smooch A Pooch Celebrity Doggie Bags program enabled participants to get their products into the hands of celebrities like Martha Stewart,  Jessica Simpson, Chandra Wilson, Matthew McConaughey,  Sarah Jessica Parker, Carrie Underwood, Oprah and Paris Hilton, just to name a few. R&B STAR MARIO LAUNCHES TWO SIMULTANEOUS NATIONAL TOURS, THE “GO!” TOUR AND THE“MARIO DO RIGHT” TOUR“

“MARIO DO RIGHT FOUNDATION” GOES NATIONAL WITH VISITS TO LOCAL BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

NEW YORK– June 9th, 2008 – Fresh off the heels of finishing the hit ABC series “Dancing With the Stars”, R&B sensation, and Boys & Girls Club Alum, Mario will be hitting the road this summer to support his third studio album “Go!” In addition, the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and actor will be visiting local Boys & Girls Clubs in support of the Mario Do Right Foundation that launched in March and will continue throughout the year with the help of this tour and other youth advocacy initiatives.

The foundation, which he started after helping his own mother overcome her heroin addiction, was set up to educate and inspire at-risk youth adversely affected by drug abuse in the home and young people in under resourced communities through programs and partnerships. In the program he will be able to provide young Club members with tools to help them deal with some of the stresses and fears of living in these situations.

As a Boys & Girls Club alum, Mario is well aware of the benefits of the Club and the affects of having positive role models. Now, as a role model himself, Mario will have the opportunity to meet with other young members face-to-face to offer ways to cope with drug abuse at home. Along the tour, Mario will stop at Boys & Girls Clubs for Q&A sessions and age-appropriate screenings of his documentary “I Won’t Love You To Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom” that premiered on MTV’s News+Docs last Fall.  He’ll incorporate his own life experiences in explaining how to deal with drug abusers without letting it negatively affect their lives in such a way so as not to lose sight of their goals.

Mario is also using the tribulations of his childhood for good in other areas such as his songwriting. The song “Do Right” off of his latest album “Go!” was inspired by what he has overcome in his life, and he will be using his music to tell his story to the audiences that attend his shows this summer along with hit songs “Crying Out For Me” and his current smash single “Music For Love.”

Mario wants concertgoers and Boys & Girls Club members along his tour to know that “my passion for making great music is inspired by trying to make the lives of young people better. I would not be able to do one without the other,” he said.
