JANET HUBERT, THE ORIGINAL “AUNT VIV” OF THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR, ALIGNS WITH WAL-MART TO DEBUT CHILDRENS’ MERCHANDISE
‘J.G. & The B.C. Kids’ Backpacks In Stores This Fall

JANET AND BACK PACKS

New York, NY, June 2008 – Veteran actor Janet Hubert, who starred on the hit NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, premieres her line of backpacks for kids in Wal-Mart’s Northeast stores in September. Featuring characters from her to-be-released children’s book and DVD animated series J.G. & The B.C. Kids, the tote bags will be affordably priced for the Fall 2008 back-to-school season. Hubert’s entry into the children’s retail market was inspired by her desire to counterbalance the limiting, and increasingly vulgar, media messages targeted toward today’s youth.

Hubert, an alumna of The Juilliard School, New York City’s prestigious performing arts conservatory, incorporates philanthropic and social activist aims into her life’s mission. She’s served as an ambassador for the National Osteoporosis Foundation and has also worked for the National Minority Health Organization, traveling around the country addressing the health care disparity for ethnic minorities in the U.S. Hubert says of her J.G. & The B.C. Kids creation, “I have always wanted to do something to change or make a difference in the lives of children. I am just like every mom out there who struggles with trying to raise a child in a culture that tells our children to constantly fit in with what is popular and not necessarily right for them. I created JG and the BC kids for that child who refuses to become like everyone else. I’m elated that Wal-Mart recognizes the need for an encouraging and affirming image for our children and I look forward to groundbreaking success with such an impactful, global retail organization.” While entry of the J.G. & The B.C. Kids backpacks into the Wal-Mart arena is initially limited to stores in the Northeast region, Hubert maintains that the full line of merchandise (which includes lunch bags, beverage containers, t-shirts, caps etc.) will hopefully be carried nationwide throughout the chain. Competitively priced from $9.99 – $19.99, the backpacks spotlight the series’ various animated ethnic characters, illustrated and co-created by artist Vincent Spencer. Like Hubert, Spencer’s mission with the project is to encourage young people to find their way by believing more deeply in themselves.
