The Lax Report

G

us Ornstein began his football career as an All – State quarterback at Fieldston High School in the Bronx, NY where he was also named Offensive Player of the Year for the East Coast by the highly acclaimed recruiting analyst from ESPN and Prep Football Report Magazine, Tom Lemming. Lemming also named Gus to his All-American team following his senior year. Gus was recruited by more than 50 Division I schools and ultimately chose to play his college football at the University of Notre Dame. Despite being promised to be red-shirted, Gus appeared in one game as a true freshman throwing a touchdown pass vs. Navy. After his freshman year at Notre Dame, ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper was quoted as saying, “whenever Gus Ornstein chooses to come out of college he will be the first player selected in the NFL draft.” Due to the fact that he had lost his red-shirt year, Gus transferred to Michigan State University where he earned academic all Big Ten honors two years in a row. Gus, who had been previously drafted by the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres (who traded him to the New York Yankees) left college football to pursue a professional baseball career. After a year of playing minor league baseball with the Yankees, Gus realized that his true passion was football and enrolled at Rowan University where he led the Profs to the Division III National Championship game. Gus ultimately returned to Michigan State and despite playing Division I football and baseball, graduated Suma Cum Laude in 1999.

Gus began his professional career with the St. Louis Rams. He later played for the Indianapolis Colts and the Miami Dolphins. He was next signed by the Kansas City Chiefs who allocated him to NFL Europe where he played for the Scottish Claymores. In 2002, the NY Jets signed him. Gus has also played in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions and the Calgary Stampeders as well as in the Arena Football League.

Throughout Gus’ professional football career, he has had the rare opportunity to develop personal relationships with the best quarterbacks and quarterback coaching minds that exist today, including Peyton Manning, Phil Simms, Trent Green, Kurt Warner, Mike Martz, Jim Fassel, Al Saunders, Mike Shula, John Jenkins, Roger Staubach and Jerry Rhome. Realizing not everyone has access to these high profile athletes and coaches, Gus founded GO QB to provide quarterbacks of all ages and skill levels with the opportunity to learn techniques from a man who acquired his from the best the game has to offer. In addition to GO QB, Gus is the Director of the Parisi Speed School in Closter, NJ and is also the head football coach at his alma mater, Fieldston high School in the Bronx, NY.
